Curriculum Overview | Stamford’s International Curriculum

Stamford Hong Kong uses an American standards-based curriculum established by the rigorous and proven American Education Reaches Out (AERO) and Common Core Plus standards. The curriculum is built for schools in Hong Kong and worldwide to help students to develop a strong foundation in the core subjects such as language, the arts, math, humanities, and science with the American style of education. As a school delivering an international curriculum in Hong Kong, we offer an American curriculum using an inquiry-based approach across themes. We nurture every child through personalized learning to foster curiosity, independent thinking, and confidence. Our HK programs culminate with three diploma options, including the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) for high school students.

Learning Journey at Stamford

Why choose Stamford American School?

In addition to our adopted American standards, we have incorporated several elements into our international school curriculum that focus on developing the whole child. These elements include:

– Global citizenship
– Approaches to learning
– International mindedness
– Service learning
– Building character
– Social-emotional skills

They are crucial to fostering successful individuals who achieve academic success and master skills to cope with real-world challenges. As life outside the classroom requires students to work across a broad range of skills and subject areas when solving problems, we use a cross-curricular approach to allow students to combine multiple skills and areas of knowledge. Hands-on project-based learning engages learners and emphasizes skill application rather than just memorizing content.

Building a Strong Foundation - Stamford Elementary School

Ho Man Tin Campus

At Stamford Hong Kong, the Elementary School program brings together the IB’s inquiry-driven approach and American academic rigor, enriched by the school’s STEMinn Program. Through hands-on projects and interdisciplinary exploration, students make meaningful connections across subjects—from coding to community—while strengthening foundational skills in mathematics, literacy, and critical thinking.

The Elementary School program supports both academic and personal growth. Students develop as empathetic collaborators and creative problem-solvers through a structured social-emotional learning curriculum and an emphasis on global citizenship.

From Pre-primary to Grade 5, learners build the confidence and adaptability needed to transition successfully into Middle School and its new challenges and opportunities.

Seamless Transition - Stamford Middle School

Ho Man Tin Campus

In our middle school program (Grades 6-8), we build on the strong foundation from elementary school. We provide challenging coursework and specialist subjects to prepare students for the high school and IB curriculum. During this important transition, we help students develop research, reflection, language, and social skills to succeed.

Preparing Future-ready Leader - Stamford High School

West Kowloon Campus

Innovation - The Core of Stamford Education

Unique to Stamford, our STEMinn Program not only helps students develop technology skills needed for careers in the digital age from the age of 5, but it also gives them the opportunity to use technology as a tool to immerse them in an environment conducive to inquiry-based learning and nurture their critical thinking skills, which will become increasingly important in the job market.

Our Grade 9-10 students gain hands-on experience with industry professionals through our Cornerstones Program in the high school curriculum.
